SAC (Strength & Aerobic Condition) Assistant

Position Reports To: Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness

Position Purpose: The SAC Assistant is the front line representative of the Walter Payton Recreation & Wellness Center by assisting with fitness activities while providing a safe and positive environment for all members while using the Strength & Aerobic Conditioning center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Provide fitness orientations to all members on the benefits of exercise and proper usage of equipment.
  • Be able to provide one-on-one or group consultation with members concerning personal training and fitness.
  • Enforce policies and safety procedures.
  • Supervision and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide guidance and assistance on the proper use of equipment, including recognition of improper use and abuse of machines.
  • Perform assigned maintenance duties to keep all pieces of equipment clean and working
  • Keep all areas of the wellness center clean and free of debris.
  • Assisting with general office duties include tours, errands, stocking supplies, completing inventory, filing.
  • Have the knowledge and education to complete fitness evaluations and keep current on all trainings and testing procedures.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings and other certification trainings.
  • Keep all personal certifications and skills current. Keeping up to date on health related classes or lectures to provide the most current information to our members
  • Initiating risk management protocol during medical or non-medical emergencies.
  • Attend and participate in Recreation Services employee trainings, programs, staff meetings.

Part-time Positions (student status not requried)

Valid proof of certifications and work authorization required prior to hiring. All part-time positions must be able to meet the minimum qualifications and physical demands.

Group Fitness Instructor

Position Reports To: Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness

Position Purpose: Prepare for, teach safe and effective group fitness classes; perform general office duties as assigned.

 SUMMARY:

Looking for a GFI-certified, energetic individual who enjoys working in a fast paced environment with adults. Instructor must have experience and appropriate certification as a group fitness instructor. Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading aerobic classes at the Walter Payton Recreation & Wellness Center. The primary goal of the position is to improve physical wellness by providing motivating, interactive, and safe fitness classes and/or programs catered to the membership base of the Payton Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties as assigned)

  • Will lead a minimum of three classes per week (negotiable).
  • Will work with other instructors making sure that all classes are covered.
  • Will work as the liaison between the fitness participants and the Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness.
  • Will assist with trainings, exercise demonstrations, and other community
    events as assigned.
  • Initiating risk management protocol during medical or non-medical emergencies.
  • Attend all meetings and workshops as requested
  • Arrive and be prepared to work or lead classes on time.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed

Certified Personal Trainer

Position Reports To: Assistant Director Fitness & Wellness

Position Purpose: Develop starting and progression exercise programs for registered Walter Payton Recreation & Wellness Center members following professional personal training guidelines and protocols.

SUMMARY:

Certified Personal Trainers provide individualized fitness programs that include education and guidance on proper food intake, cardio-respiratory exercise, supplementation and resistance training. They also assist in orientation of new members to the SAC and of the benefits of our fitness services. Accepted certifications: AFAA, ACSM, ACE, BSMI, Cooper, NCSF, NASM, NSCA. Accepted degrees: Athletic Training, Chiropractic, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Human Performance, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Physical Education, Physical Therapy, Sports Management, Sports Medicine.

SKILL REQUIREMENT:

  • In depth knowledge of Personal Training techniques from assessment to program design
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Must be able to adjust and operate all SAC equipment.
  • Current CPT certification
  • Must attend all meetings and workshops as requested
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and must have positive attitude.
  • Must be willing to enforce all policies of the Recreation & Wellness Center
  • Must be energetic, outgoing, and have knowledge of current health trends
