Terms
Individual Sports - Activities in which a single person may perform the entire activity without teammates.
Dual Sports - Activities in which two people compete directly against each other.
Team Sports - Activities that require three or more people to participate as a playing unit.

Eligibility
All students who are currently registered and pay Jackson State University tuition for classes are eligible for all intramural activities during a semester. Students who are student teaching or in off-campus internships are also eligible to participate in all IM activities during that semester.
Players may participate on only one team in a division. Players may play for a co-rec team and a men's or women's team. Back to Top
Varsity Athletes
A varsity squad member is defined as a person who has practiced or competed with any intercollegiate team after the team has played its first regular season game and such athletes are not eligible to participate in intramural sports in their respective sport or parallel sport. A former varsity team member in a team sport may participate in the intramural program in their respective sport after exhausting their eligibility and meeting the following requirements: A) He or she no longer works out/practices with the varsity team; B) Teams with former varsity athletes must compete in the Advanced league. Club Sport Athletes
A club sport athlete is defined as any individual who has paid dues to a club sport, participated in extramural competition with the club, or has practiced regularly at any time during the current academic year.
Club sport team members will be eligible for participation in the sport of their specialty, but will be limited to one or two members per intramural team depending on the number of intramural players required to compete. Back to Top
Graduate Students
A graduate/law student is defined as any individual currently enrolled in graduate level coursework. A graduate student is eligible to participate in any division as long as they have and maintain current membership at the Walter Payton Recreation and Wellness Center. Back to Top
Faculty and Staff
A faculty or staff member is defined as any individual currently employed by Jackson State and issued a faculty/staff ID card. A faculty or staff member is eligible to participate in any division as long as they have and maintain current membership at the Walter Payton Recreation and Wellness Center. Back to Top
Professional Athletes
Any student who is disqualified from any intercollegiate sport because of professional sport status shall also be ineligible for that IM sport or parallel IM sports. Back to Top
Responsibility
Players are responsible for their own eligibility. Team captains are also responsible for the eligibility of their players. Back to Top
Eligibility Sanctions
An ineligible participant is one who does not meet all eligibility requirements or who has been suspended from intramural play. A team shall forfeit any contest in which an ineligible player participates. A player is considered a legal member of the team on which he or she first plays. Therefore, if a participant plays for a second team in the same sport per semester, such participation shall be illegal even though his or her name may appear on the second team’s roster. All games that a player competes in after becoming illegal shall be forfeited. Individuals may play for a men’s or women’s division team and a co-rec team in the same sport per quarter. Back to Top
Assumed Name
Any player competing under an assumed name will be ineligible for IM participation for one calendar year once first noticed. Team captains using a player under an assumed name are responsible and will forfeit any games the player competed in. All players must have a pictured Jackson State ID to participate. Back to Top
